Untersuchungen zur Eliminierung von Phytophthora spp. aus Recyclingwasser in Baumschulen mit Hilfe von Filtrationsverfahren
[Studies on the elimination of Phytophthora spp. from recycling water in nurseries using filtration systems]
Nachrichtenblatt des Deutschen Pflanzenschutzdienstes 60 (3), 45-61
Abstract: In a four year project three filtration systems were tested in commercial nurseries: three Slow Sand (SSF), one Lava Grain (LGF) (Shieer Bio-Filter®) and one Constructed Wetland (CWF) Filtration system. The filtration systems produced sufficient quantities of water for nursery production. The maximum annual quantity of water demanded by the participating nurseries ranged from 5800 m3 up to 163 000 m3. The total costs for 1 m3 filtrated water were lowest for the SSF 1 and highest for the WRF.
Regular sampling in May, August and October over a four year period demonstrated complete elimination of Phytophthora spp. with the three SSF and the LGF. The filtrates remained free of Phytophthora spp. if the clean water reservoirs were protected against contamination via soil and air. The CWF requires continuing analysis for a final judgement.
