Befallsrückgang der virösen Rübenvergilbung in Sachsen-Anhalt
[Decrease of the occurrence of sugar beet yellows in Saxony-Anhalt]
Nachrichtenblatt des Deutschen Pflanzenschutzdienstes 51 (12), 321-324
Abstract: Virus yellows of sugar beet was very important in the former GDR, especially in the state of present-day Saxony Anhalt. Amongst other factors, the high infection rate in sugar beet fields was responsible for low yields. Since 1992, the occurrence of both yellowing viruses has greatly declined, although the flight activities and population dynamics of the aphids has remained unchanged. It is likely, therefore, that the main reason for the decrease in virus infection is the ending of the seed production of Beta vulgaris in East Germany and the dislocation in countries of southern Europe and that these former sources of infection are no longer limiting factors for sugar beet cultivation.
