Myriophyllum heterophyllum (weed) Michx. - (twoleaf watermilfoil)
The plant is an aquatic weed, native to North America and introduced into Europe and parts of Asia, mostly through the trade of aquarium plants. It might form dense mats on water bodies with the resulting negative effects on the aquatic fauna and flora.
M. heterophyllum has both submerged and emergent leaf forms. The latter produce flowers. However, in Europe the plants do not produce seeds. They can tolerate a wide range of temperatures and might survive the winter under ice.
For a review see the EPPO Bulletin (2016).
