Milviscutulus mangiferae (Green, 1889) - (mango shield scale)
This scale insect is widely distributed in tropical and some subtropical regions. The insect is polyphagous and can cause serious infestations on mango trees. It is less often found on other crops like citrus, coconut palms, pineapple or papaya, as well as on some ornamentals. Heavy infestations can result in crop decline, sooty mould and yield losses.
The scale has an approximate triangular outline with the body of females having a length of 4-5 mm. There are typically 2-3 generations per year.
