Metopolophium festucae (Theobald)
The aphid has been reported from several regions as infesting grasses and cereals. Several subspecies have been described:
Metopolophium festucae cerealium:
Although M. festucae has been recorded from North America since 1970, this subspecies has been only reported there since 1994 and is considered invasive. It is believed to be native to Europe. High populations have been found in northwestern North America on wheat during 2011 and in subsequent years. Feeding causes characteristic red-pigmented spots on the leaves that turn necrotic.
