Metamasius callizona (Chevrolat) - (Mexican bromeliad weevil)
This weevil is native to southern Mexico and Gutemala, where it is known as an occasional pest of pineapple. In 1989, it was first reported from Florida and it breeds there in various species of Bromeliaceae, a family which includes pineapple. Native plants under threat by the weevil are mainly species of Tillandsia and Catopsis, several of them are endangered.
