Megaselia scalaris (Loew) - (coffin fly)

The species is a small nuisance fly (2-3 mm long) which is widely distributed and can be found on various organic substrates of plant and animal origin. Apart from being sarcophagous, it can also infest insect colonies, certain types of fruit or mushrooms and can even cause intestinal myiasis in humans after consumption.
