Macrosiphum Passerini, 1860

This genus of aphids is widely distributed and contains more than 100 species. Several are important argicultural pests like the potato aphid, Macrosiphum euphorbiae, or the rose aphid, Macrosiphum rosae. Most species are monoecious holocyclic, but some have alternate hosts, e.g. rose and herbaceous plants.

The species are relatively large, around 3 mm from frons to abdomen tip, and often green. The genus is characterized by the shape of the siphunculi, head, antennae and the chaetotaxy of the tarsi.
