Lutzomyia neivai (Pinto 1926)

This sand fly is found in parts of South America, in particular in southern Brazil and northern Argentina. It feeds on domestic animals, rodents and humans and is considered to be a vector of Leishmania species that cause cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis diseases, e.g. Leishmania braziliensis and Leishmania infantum. The larvae develop in soil rich in organic matter and they can be reared on a substrate containing rabbit feces, rabbit food or fish food.
