Lutzomyia intermedia (Lutz & Neiva, 1912)
This sand fly is found in parts of South America, mainly in southern areas of Brazil. It feeds on on domestic animals, rodents and humans and lives in forests as well as in anthropic environments. It is an important vector of American cutaneous leishmaniasis (caused by Leishmania braziliensis).
