Lutzomyia hirsuta (Mangabeira, 1942)

This sand fly is widely distributed in South America. It is regarded as a vector of Leishmania parasites in the Amazonas region. L. hirsuta is characterised by the pale coxae and the shape of the male parameres (Carvalho et al., 2006).
