Lutzomyia anduzei Rozeboom, 1942

This species is very similar to Lutzomyia umbratilis with only minor external differences like L. anduzei having a slightly lighter coloration. The main differences are in the structure of their genitalia (Scarpassa & Alencar, 2013). Both species are found in rain forests of northern South America and often occur together in the same area. They are both anthropophilic and can be naturally infected with Leishmania guayanensis. While L. umbratilis is the main vector of L. guayanensis, L. anduzei is regarded as a secondary vector, and typically carries Leishmania at a lower rate.
