Lupinus polyphyllus (weed) Lindl.
This weed is a perennial herb, native to north-western parts of North America, which has been introduced as an ornamental into other regions. It has become established in Europe, and some temperate parts of Asia, Australia and South America. In several areas, like Scandinavia, it has become a serious environmental weed, suppressing native vegetation, e.g. in forest understories.
The plant reproduces mostly by seed but vegetative reproduction via rhizomes is also possible. It grows to a height of more than 1 m, with lobed (pedate) leaves and tall spikes of purple flowers. The fruits are short pods, each containing several seeds. These will split when ripe and drop the seeds.
