Longidoridae
The family contains more than 700 species of ectoparasitic nematodes, including various important crop pests. Apart from causing direct damage to plants, several species are vectors of plant viruses.
The family is characterized by the greatly elongated stylet (odontostyle) which is 50-200 µm long. Compared to other groups of plant-parasitic nematodes the species of Longidoridae can be much larger with a body length of 1½ to 13 mm. They also have a longer life cycle.
