Leptotrombidium pallidum (Nagayo et al., 1919)

This mite is an important vector of scrub typhus or tsutsugamushi disease, caused by the rickettsiosis Orientia tsutsugamushi. Only the very small "chigger" (larval) stage of the mite are parasitic and transmit the disease while the nymphal and adult stages feed on plant materials. Ground-living rodents are the main hosts and humans are accidental hosts. L. pallidum is found in parts of eastern Asia.
