Lampronia capitella (Clerck, 1759) - (currant shoot borer)
This moth is an occasional pest of currant and gooseberry in Europe and some temperate parts of Asia. The female lays eggs on the young fruits and the larvae bore into the developing fruits causing insignificant damage. They emerge in late summer and spin a cocoon on the bark or near the ground of the host plant where they overwinter. In spring they bore into the young buds and shoots, damaging several shoots before pupating.
The adults have a wingspan of around 15 mm. The wings are dark brown with 3 or more whitish, triangular marks, two of them often opposite each other and sometimes merging at the tips.
