Behavioural responses of Lucilia cuprina (Wiedemann) (Diptera: Calliphoridae) to olfactory stimuli: Evaluation of an olfactometer
Journal of the Australian Entomological Society 33 (2), 137-141
Abstract: Evaluation of a choice-type olfactometer for the Australian sheep blowfly, Lucilia cuprina, is described. Responses of L. cuprina in the olfactometer, on a given day, were reproducible, and suitable for reliably testing attractants. However, the response of the sheep blowflies to liver odour varied significantly between days and between chambers of the olfactometer. No response differences were detected between virgin and gravid, nor between male and female flies. Short CO2 immobilisation of the flies (5 min or less) did not change their response to odours in the olfactometer.
