Ixodes pavlovskyi Pomerantsev, 1946

This tick is found in temperate regions of eastern Asia, including parts of Russia, China and Japan. It feeds mainly on birds and small mammals, but can also bite humans. I. pavlovskyi has a similar morphology and biology compared to Ixodes persulcatus and often occurs together with that species in the same area and sometimes on the same host. However, I. persulcatus feeds usually on larger mammals. I. pavlovskyi has been found to carry several viruses and Borrelia species, but its role in the transmission of these disease agents is unknown.
