Ixodes hexagonus Leach, 1815 - (hedgehog tick)

The tick is found in south-eastern Europe and surrounding regions. It commonly feeds on hedgehogs, foxes and cats, but also attaches to dogs and may bite humans. It can carry various disease agents including Borrelia burgdorferi genospecies. It can be separated from closely related species by an internal spur on the first coxae in females.
