Plant parasitic nematodes associated with oriental melon (Cucumis melo L.) in Gyongbuk province of Korea
International Journal of Nematology 12 (2), 155-158
Abstract: A survey was conducted in May 2002 to determine the occurrence and density of plant parasitic nematodes in oriental melon (Cucumis melo L.) cultivated under plastic houses in Gyongbuk province of Korea. The survey revealed presence of 12 species of plant parasitic nematodes viz., Aphelenchus avenae, Aphelenchoides sp., Filenchus vulgaris, Hemicycliophora koreana, Macroposthonia ornata, Meloidogyne arenaria, M. incognita, Pratylenchus penetrans, Rotylenchus orientalis, Tylenchorhynchus claytoni, Tylenchus davainei and Xiphinema sp. Frequency and density of each species were highly variable from field to field and within the field under plastic houses. Occurrence, distribution and density of plant parasitic nematodes seemed to be influenced by the agricultural practices. Plants growth was not uniform in the surveyed fields under plastic houses; stunted, chlorotic, defoliated and wilted plants with fewer fruits were observed in patches.
