Hosta virus X (HVX)
This virus infects Hosta plants and has been originally described from North America. It has been also reported from Europe, eastern Asia, and New Zealand. The symptoms include leaf mosaic and deformation like puckering. The virus can cause significant economic damage to Hosta plants in nurseries.
Only Hosta plants are infected naturally, probably mainly during vegetative propagation of the plants or by mechanical contact. Several other plant species can be infected artificially with sap. Like in other Potexviruses, the particle are long and filamentous. They have a length of around 550 nm.
