Hoplolaimus pararobustus (Schuurmans Stekhoven & Teunissen, 1938)
This lance nematode is mainly found in Africa, but has been also reported from parts of Asia and Australia. It has been recorded from the soil, as an endoparasite in the cortex of roots and as an ectoparasite. Females have a body length of 1.1 to 1.4 mm and a stylet length of 40-50 µm. Males are smaller.
H. pararobustus is often reported as a pest of bananas, but can be also associated with various other host plants, for example with cereals like maize (Marais et al., 2020). In banana roots the feeding results it necrotic cortical tissue and lesions.
