Holotrichia oblita (Faldermann, 1835)

This species of white grubs has been reported from China and other parts of eastern Asia. The larvae live in the soil feeding on the roots of various crops and grasses, e.g. groundnuts, maize, wheat, soybean, and potatoes, causing economic damage. The adults are active during the night. It has a 2-year life cycle.

Taxonomic note: The taxonomic status of Holotrichia oblita (Faldermann, 1835) is uncertain. The name probably refers to Melolontha oblita Faldermann, 1835, which is regarded as a synonym of Melolontha gebleri Faldermann, 1835, which again is regarded as a synonym of Nigrotrichia gebleri (Faldermann, 1835), see GBIF (accessed 2021).
