Hieroglyphus banian (Fabricius, 1798)

This grasshopper is found in southern parts of Asia, where it feeds on cereals, grasses and various other plants. It is regarded as a serious pest of rice and sorghum in some areas (e.g. Das et al., 2002). Mature females have a length of around 55 mm and males of 43 mm.
