Hemiberlesia lataniae (Signoret, 1869) - (latania scale)
This armoured scale is found in nearly all tropical and subtropical parts of the world. It is polyphagous and infests many types of fruit trees and vines like avocado, grapevines or kiwi fruits. However, serious outbreaks are uncommon. Infested fruits have a reduced market value and the growth of heavily infested trees may be reduced. It typically completes 4 generations per year. There are a variety of natural enemies feeding on this scale like the predatory mite Hemisarcoptes coccophagus.
Synonyms:
Aspidiotus lataniae
