Gynaikothrips ficorum (Marchal 1908) - (Cuban laurel thrips)

The thrips is widely distributed and infests ornamental Ficus species like F. microcarpa. The young developing leaves are attacked. When these expand, they fold or curl into a discoulored leaf gall. In California, the predatory bug Montandoniola confusa has been successfully released against this thrips with an estimated economic benefit of around US$ 60 million (Shogren and Paine, 2016).
