Glabromicroplitis croceipes (parasitoid) (Cresson, 1872)

The wasp is common in North America and specific to heliothine species. It is an important solitary endoparasitoid of pest species like Helicoverpa zea and Chloridea virescens. The parasitoid (through its polydnavirus) is able to alter the saliva of the host larva in a way that it triggers a lower antiherbivore defence in the plant the caterpillar feeds on. By suppressing plant defences, the polydnavirus allows the caterpillar to grow at a faster rate, thus improving the host suitability for the parasitoid (Tan et al., 2018).
