[Realtime-PCR for detection of Clavibacter michiganensis subsp. sepedonicus und Ralstonia solanacearum - Basic information, method and practical advice]

Abstract: Realtime-PCR as a quantitative nucleic acid amplification method is an improvement of conventional PCR, which only provides qualitative results. In the meantime Realtime-PCR, which is fast, sensitive and specific as well, is increasingly used for detection of plant pathogens. In this report basic knowledge about Realtime-PCR is presented. Furthermore the method established at the Bavarian State Research Center for Agriculture (LfL) for detection of Bacterial Ring Rot and Brown Rot Pathogens of potato is described to assist diagnostic laboratories which want to apply this technique.
