Ganaspis brasiliensis (parasitoid) (Ihering, 1905)

This wasp is a parasitoid of Drosophilidae larvae in South America and Asia, but has been also reported from larvae of the fly family Tephritidae. It is of interest for the biological control of the invasive spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) (Lee et al., 2019), and can achieve high rates of parasitism. In Asia, it is often the dominant parasitoid species on D. suzukii (Giorgini et al., 2019). It is currently studied as a possible candidate for classical biological control of D. suzukii. For the taxonomy of this species, see Buffington & Forshage (2016).
