Ganaspis (parasitoids) Förster, 1869
This is a large genus of wasps from the subfamily of Eucoilinae with a wide distribution. The species are mainly parasitoids of Drosophilidae larvae. For example, Ganaspis brasiliensis is an efficient and specialized parasitoid of the invasive spotted wing drosophila (Drosophila suzukii) in its native Asia, which is being studied as a possible candidate for classical biological control in other countries.
Ganaspis species resemble superficially the species of Leptopilina. They are compactly built, small (around 1 - 1½ mm long), with a wide, almost globular, head, among other characters.
