Gammacarmovirus vignae
Assigned virus:
• cowpea mottle virus (CPMoV)
The cowpea mottle virus is found in Africa and infects different legumes, including important crops like cowpea, soybean or groundnut. The symptoms include leaf mottling and mosaic, as well as leaf deformation and stunting. Yield losses can exceed 50% and can be near 100% if the plants are co-infected with another virus. CPMoV can be transmitted mechanically and by certain beetle species.
