Forficula Linnaeus, 1758
This genus of earwigs is widely distributed, especially in temperate regions. It contains around 70 species of insect predators, some of which are used for the biological control of agricultural pests. They are highly polyphagous and prey on a large variety of insects like aphids, caterpillars, scale insects or mites. The most important species is the European earwig, Forficula auricularia which is mainly used in orchards. However, it might also cause some damage to fruits.
