Analysis of insecticide resistance in Helicoverpa armigera in Thailand
FAO Plant Protection Bulletin 42 (1-2), 63-63
Abstract: High levels of resistance to pyrethroids, dichlorodiphenyltrichloroethane (DDT) and carbaryl were recorded in the American bollworm, Helicoverpa (Heliothis) arrnigera, collected from cotton fields in Thailand in 1985 and 1986. Resistance levels to five insecticides tested are compared, and a possible cross-resistance between pyrethroids and DDT, and carbaryl is discussed. An analysis is made of the factors leading to this resistance and its main mechanisms. Suggestions are made to deal with this problem by using strategies enhancing the efficacy of insecticides and employing non-chemical control measures.
