Euscelis incisus (Kirschbaum, 1858)

This leafhopper is found in Europe and neighbouring countries. It has been shown to be a vector of a variety of phytoplasma diseases (e.g. see Jakovljevic et al., 2015), including the important 'bois noir' disease of grapevine, caused by Candidatus Phytoplasma solani.

E. incisus is polyphagous and feeds on many species of plants. There are typically 2 generations per year and diapausing eggs of the 2nd generation overwinter. Rearing is also possible, using for example faba bean (Vicia faba ). The adult hoppers are around 5 mm long, dark brown and finely mottled with lighter brown.
