Eupeodes americanus (predator) (Wiedemann, 1830) - (American hoverfly)
This hover fly is found in North America and the larvae feed on a large variety of aphids. Their prey includes for example the woolly apple aphid (Eriosoma lanigerum) or Aphis species.
The adults are about 10 mm long with a vertical brown line on the yellow face. the abdomen has pairs of yellow stripes or a yellow band on each segment. The larvae are dark with orange markings.
