Eriococcus spurius (Modeer, 1778) - (European elm scale)

This species of felt scale is native to Europe and neighbouring regions. It has been introduced in the 1880s into north-eastern U.S. and has since spread to other parts of the continent, including South America. It is monophagous on elms can cause localized damage to elm trees.
