Eriococcidae (felt scales)
This family includes several hundred species of mealybugs which belong to the superfamily of Coccoidea. The common name refers to the woolly ovisac that encloses the female completely, except for an opening through which newly hatched nymphs disperse. The family includes several plant pests like the beech scale, Cryptococcus fagisuga.
The family is considered to be polyphyletic and in need for a revision.
