Host influences on life history traits and oviposition behavior of Brachymeria intermedia (Nees) (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae)
Environmental Entomology 13 (1), 243-247
Abstract: Some life history traits in Brachymeria intermedia (Nees) (Hymenoptera: Chalcididae) reared from either Lymantria dispar (L.) or Galleria mellonella (L.) were compared. The only difference observed was the larger size of L. dispar-reared individuals. Small individuals were not as effective in overcoming the behavioral defenses of L. dispar pupae. This disadvantage was not overcome by increases in ovipositional drive due to host deprivation. Thus, G. mellonella may not be a suitable host for mass rearing of this parasitoid.
