Morphological variation by population, host, and sex in spruce budworm
Environmental Entomology 11 (2), 493-496
Abstract: Late-instar spruce budworm larvae were collected from two host tree species, balsam fir and white spruce, and scored for head and thoracic shield pigmentation. In some populations, caterpillar pigmentation frequencies differed significantly by host species. In all collections, male larvae were significantly different from female larvae. Frequency distributions were also different from population to population.
