Emaravirus fici

Assigned virus:
fig mosaic virus (FMV)

The fig mosaic virus is associated with the economically important fig mosaic disease and is widely distributed. The symptoms include mosaic, ringspots and deformed leaves. Yield is affected and yellow spots often appear on the fruits, reducing their market value.

FMV is transmitted by the eriophyid fig mite (Aceria ficus) or by grafting. The particles are ovoid, double membrane-bound bodies (90-200 nm). The genome consists of six negatively stranded RNA segments.
