Drosophila simulans Sturtevant, 1919
This species of vinegar fly is very similar to Drosophila melanogaster and differs mainly by the structure of the male genitalia. It also has a similar distribution and is invasive in some areas (e.g. Japan). Both species breed in overripe and decaying fruits and are closely associated with the human environment.
