Diplocarpon mespili (Sorauer) B. Sutton 1980

The fungus causes leaf spots on pears and other plants in the Americas. The spots are reddish to purple, initially about 1-3 mm in size. They enlarge and during heavy infections, the leaves become necrotic and drop. The fungus can also cause cankers on the branches.
