Diodia virginiana (weed) L. - (Virginia buttonweed)
This plant is native to eastern North America and parts of Central America. It has been introduced into Japan and some other regions. It can be a problem weed in turfgrass and is difficult to control due to its extensive root system and its ability to reproduce vegetatively from the roots.
D. virginiana is a low-growing perennial plant, with opposite leaves and small white star-shaped flowers in the leaf axils. The stems can reach a length of up to 100 cm. The egg-shaped fruits have a size of around 5-8 x 3-5 mm and produce flat, dark brown seed, about 2-3 x 4-5 mm large.
