Diaphania Hübner, 1818

This genus of moths is found in tropical and subtropical regions. They typically have a wingspan of 25 to 30 mm. At rest, the wings are held in a triangular manner, often with a white or yellow centre and a brown border. The species bread mainly on Cucurbitaceae and several are important agricultural pests like the melonworm (Diaphania hyalinata) or the pickleworm (D. nitidalis). The larvae feed on leaves, flowers, fruits, and stems, for pupation they usually spin a silken cocoon on the leaves. One generation may be completed within a month and there are several generations per year.
