Dermacentor andersoni Stiles, 1908 - (Rocky Mountain wood tick)

This tick is found mainly in the mountainous parts of western North America. It bites humans and cattle and transmits the Colorado tick fever virus. It is also a vector of Rocky Mountain spotted fever (Rickettsia rickettsii) and of bovine anaplasmosis (Anaplasma marginale). The development of the tick involves three hosts with the larvae feeding on small rodents.
