Dermacentor albipictus (Packard) - (winter tick)
The tick is common on deer and moose in North America. It may also bite humans. On moose calfs, ticks can reach very high densities (30,000-50,000 ticks/calf) and the calfs often die as a result of extensive blood loss due to the feeding activities of the ticks.
