Dendrolimus houi De Lajonquière, 1979 - (Yunnan pine moth)

This moth is found in parts of eastern Asia, where it can cause serious outbreaks on conifers, killing thousands, sometimes millions of trees. Species from the conifer genera Cryptomeria, Pinus, Cupressus, and Platycladus can be infested. Outbreaks develop mainly at high elevations. Larger caterpillars have toxic hairs and the larval development extends over a period of around half a year. There are 1 to 2 generations per year and the insect usually overwinters as egg or first instar larva (Han et al., 2019).
