The beetle is a ground-living predator of various insect and mite pests which is commercially available. The adult is small (3-4 mm), highly mobile and polyphagous. The larvae are pale yellow to cream coloured. The adults are dark brown. The body is typically held in an S-posture with the head turned down and the abdomen turned upwards. It is often used in greenhouses against various pests like thrips, spider mites or fungus gnats.
