Dalbulus maidis (Delong & Wolcott) - (maize leafhopper)

The leafhopper is found in Central and South America and feeds on maize. It is an important disease vector of Spiroplasma kunkelii (corn stunt spiroplasma, CSS), Maize bushy stunt phytoplasma (MBSP) and Maize rayado fino virus. Some of these diseases like MBSP can result in more than 50% of the corn plants becomming infected in a field under suitable conditions.
