Culex thriambus Dyar, 1921
This mosquito is found in south-western parts of North America, e.g. in California, where it feeds on different species of birds. It has been found infected with the West Nile virus in nature and is a competent and efficient laboratory vector of that virus. It may have a role in the maintenance and amplification of this virus in the field. The species is mainly active during the summer and females go into a reproductive diapause in the winter.
